“..Bagnacaval does well in not begetting/And ill does Castrocaro, and Conio worse,/In taking trouble to beget such Counts....” (Pg., canto XIV): quotation by Dante placed on the external wall of the Church of S. Nicolò. A must visit is the medieval residential area of Castrocaro that extends around the imposing Fortress and where can be found the small Baptistery of San Giovanni and some streets below, the Palace of Florentine Commissioners with emblems on the facade. In the lower part of the village the Church of Saints Nicolò and Francesco conserves interesting wall paintings and altarpieces.
Dinner in the hotel’s restaurant with healthy cuisine inspired by the products and traditions of the region.
Overnight stay.

SECOND DAY – FORLI’, BERTINORO, POLENTA
Breakfast.
Visit and walk in the beautiful historic centre of Forlì. Here Dante was guest of the Ordelaffi, the lords of the city, on more then one occasion. Dante mentions them in the verses of the Inferno: “The city which once made the long resistance/And of the French a sanguinary heap/Beneath the Green Paws finds itself again;” (XXVII canto If). These words are engraved on a plaque at the base of the bell-tower of the Abbey of San Mercuriale, building of the time of Alighieri with wall paintings of Palmezzano. A must see is the museum complex of the convent San Domenico, the new base of the Civic Museums and prestigious centre of exhibitions and cultural events. Wine tasting guided by the maker in an winery of the territory.
Lunch in an panoramic restaurant in Bertinoro with local cuisine.
The dames and cavaliers, the toils and ease/That filled our souls with love and courtesy/There where the hearts have so malicious grown!/O Brettinoro! why dost thou not flee/Seeing that all thy family is gone/ And many people, not to be corrupted? (Pg., canto XIV). Afternoon in the “Balcony of Romagna” ruled by the medieval Rocca of the lords of Mainardi and Guido del Duca, as Dante recalls. To walk up till you reach Piazza of Liberty with the famous Column of Hospitality, the magnificent fourteenth-century Palace and Clock Tower. The Interfaith Museum is a cultural jewel inside Rocca of Barbarossa.
Visit of Polenta at Pieve di San Donato on the panoramic street of the hills of Bertinoro, dear to Giosuè Carducci that in one of his famous Odes suggests that Dante was a guest here at the Lords Polentani of Ravenna. Every year takes place here the Carducciano Gathering and series of readings of Dante’s works.
Dinner in the hotel’s restaurant.
Overnight stay.

THIRD DAY - PORTICO DI ROMAGNA, ACQUACHETA
Breakfast.
Free trip to Val Montone (Valle dell’Acquacheta); in the area of San Benedetto in Alpe, a wonderful walk along the natural trail up to the Waterfall of Acquacheta (70 metres high), dearly beloved by Dante Alighieri and mentioned in one of the lines of the Divine Comedy: “Which is above called Acquacheta, ere/It down descendeth into its low bed/And at Forli is vacant of that name/Reverberates there above San Benedetto/From Alps, by falling at a single leap/Where for a thousand there were room enough." (If., canto XVI)
Packed lunch at the Waterfall.
Visit in the afternoon of Portico di Romagna, lovely medieval village of the high Apennine. Throughout the enchanting small streets is found Palazzo Portinari, that according to legends belonged to the father of Beatrice and it was there were the two fell in love. In Portico is recommended that a nice walk starts in the higher part of the village, between the Turrets of the Vineyard that surround the village. Halfway in the town can be visited the Church of the Brotherhood to then descend along the alley of Calgheria up to the magnificent Majesty Bridge, which is an arched bridge dated back to 1300.
Dinner in restaurant with typical menù of the Romagna – Toscana cuisine.
Overnight stay.

FOURTH DAY – RAVENNA

Breakfast.
Tour of Ravenna, of the numerous historical-artistic treasures, immersed in the secrets of Dante’s Ravenna: visit of Dante’s Tomb (1780), of the Quadrarco of Braccioforte (where Dante’s bones were found in 1885), of Basilica of San Francesco (where Dante went to pray and where his funeral service took place), of the Museum and the Dante Centre of Friars Minor.
Lunch in the historic centre at a tavern with typical cuisine from Romagna.
In the afternoon exploration of the Byzantine mosaics, the same that Dante, taking shelter in 1318, could admire and from which he was inspired for the final draft of the Paradise. Must see: the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, the Basilica of San Vitale and the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, the Neonian Baptistery and the Archiepiscopal Museum. Lastly not to be missed a visit of the Pallazzi of the lords Da Polenta, among which the so-called “Casa di Francesca” (from Rimini).
